Aside from the immediate problems of violence and psychological damage done to a child, the far reaching effects have a harmful effect on society as a whole. Children who grow in abusive and neglectful households have a much higher risk of turning to crime, drugs, homelessness, depression, and even suicide later in life.

NAPCAN (National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect) is Australia’s premiere child advocacy charity that is dedicated to working with authorities, the media, businesses, and individuals to bring an end to the vicious cycle of child abuse.

NAPCAN does this through a variety of way including:

1. Researching and documenting cases of child abuse.

2. Informing the general public about child abuse and neglect and giving people things to watch out for.

3. Advocating changes in government policy to help better protect children.

4. Demonstrating a proper and healthy way to raise a child.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), formed in 1989, has been ratified in Australia, but not yet made into a part of Australian law. The principles of the CRC are made to allow children to develop and thrive in a loving environment, and NAPCAN is dedicated to making the principles of the CRC come true in Australia today.
